October 17-27, 2013

 

For one of my graduate courses, I conducted field research on Sapelo Island off the coast of Georgia. I lived and worked on the island for a week and collaborated with a fellow graduate student Cristina Herren. We collected samples of the cordgrass Spartina alterniflora to examine three potential biotic stressors: tissue damage by periwinkle snails (Littorina irrorata), leaf-chewing by insects, and stem-boring by insect larvae.
